Publication Charges

SKLS aims to keep publication charges proportionate to the operational costs of scholarly publishing. Any article processing charge or other mandatory publication fee must be displayed clearly on the relevant journal website before an author commits to publication.

What Publication Charges Support

Publication charges may support editorial systems, peer-review administration, production, metadata preparation, platform infrastructure, digital preservation, publication hosting, discoverability, and other scholarly publishing operations.

Waivers and Discounts

Full or partial waivers may be available to authors who are unable to pay the applicable publication charge. Journal-level policies may also provide discounts based on country, institutional circumstances, funding limitations, or other defined criteria.

Requests should be assessed respectfully and with appropriate confidentiality. The applicable journal should state how and when an author may request financial support.

Editorial Independence

An author's ability or inability to pay must not determine whether a manuscript is accepted or rejected. Editors and reviewers should evaluate manuscripts according to scholarly and ethical criteria, independently of payment decisions.

No Surprise Charges

Authors should not be subjected to undisclosed mandatory fees after acceptance. Any charge that may become payable should be communicated transparently before publication and in accordance with the relevant journal policy.

Publication charges may vary between SKLS journals. Authors should consult the journal's own information page for the current fee, waiver, discount, and payment terms applicable to their submission.
