SKLS — Still Know Little Science — is a publisher founded to counteract the escalating article processing charges (APCs) that have been rising wildly across the academic publishing landscape. He intended to establish a publisher that does not operate for profit and that provides fair publishing with very low fees, sufficient only to sustain the basic expenses required to keep the publisher operational.

The founding vision was twofold. First, to fight greedy APCs by offering an alternative model in which authors are not burdened with disproportionate charges for the publication of their work. Second, to provide a gateway for hosting journals and to help them improve their quality, particularly journals that lack the infrastructure, resources, or institutional support needed to meet rising editorial and technical standards.

The name Still Know Little Science reflects the publisher's intellectual orientation: a recognition that scientific knowledge remains radically incomplete, that certainty is often premature, and that scholarship should proceed with humility rather than pretension. It is a deliberate rejection of the rhetoric of definitive discovery that dominates much of commercial publishing. The name is not a slogan of deficiency but a statement of epistemic honesty — an acknowledgment that every published finding is provisional, every framework partial, and every conclusion open to revision.

The publisher was therefore established not as a commercial venture but as a mission-driven response to a publishing environment increasingly shaped by profit extraction. Its purpose is to sustain fair, accessible, and quality-oriented publishing without imposing the financial barriers that have come to characterize much of the academic publishing sector. It is committed to hosting journals, supporting their development, and advancing science under the premise that what we know is always less than what remains to be known.
